VandyRadio is changing in 2025 in a big way!  We’ve decided to stretch ourselves and really try to own the slogan “The Soundtrack of Campus Life.”  Take a look at the announcement below and see if you’d like to be a part of this new initiative on campus.

HOW THIS IS GOING TO WORK

Bill Priestley will be the new Station Manager of VandyRadio.  With over 30 years of experience in radio, Bill will be able to lead, teach and mentor the Executive Team and DJ’s how to create and run a successful radio station.  It will be his responsibility to give VandyRadio the infrastructure needed to survive, but it will be the students involved in VandyRadio that will have the most influence on the success of the station.

The station will require 10 executive positions.  Two positions will be the decision makers on their side of the station – be it the on-air product or the off-air marketing and promotion work.   The rest of these positions will work on teams on their respective side of the station but can aid in any way in other roles as they can.  None of these positions are paid positions, but if done well, this opportunity can give a student exceptional experience that can make a resume stand out.

Here are the basic job descriptions of the Program Director (on-air) and the Marketing Director (marketing).  These jobs require about 10 hours a week to be done well.

Underneath the Program Director are four positions that will help decide the sound and style of VandyRadio – what people hear on the air.  Here are some basic descriptions of the Music Director, Sports Director, News Director and Production Director.  These positions require about 5-10 hours a week to be done well.

These positions can also have assistants under them (Assistant Music Director, Assistant Sports Director….etc.).

Underneath the Marketing Director are four positions that will the growth of the station among students and the Vanderbilt Community.  Here are some basic descriptions of the Promotions Director, Webmaster, Social Media Manager and the Recruiting Director.

Like those positions above, these can also have assistants (Assistant Promotions Director, Assistant Webmaster….etc.).  They also require 5-10 hours per week to be done well.

The blood life of VandyRadio will be the DJ’s that run the shows, play the music, and bring the product of VandyRadio to the campus.  Here is a brief description of the job of a DJ concerning programming.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please use the link below to apply for one or more positions.  But remember, this is not a club where you can show up, get a title and put it on your resume.  This is a very real situation where we are trying to build a radio station from the ground up and it will require work.

At the same time, all of that work is meant to be engaging and fun.  If it stops being fun, it has lost its vision.  Radio, when done well, is inherently fun and engaging and that in and of itself attracts listeners which invites applications for positions to try and keep the fun going.

We hope that you decide to apply and be a part of a group of people set on making great radio – and even if you don’t get the position you want, be a DJ and be a part of the rebirth of VandyRadio – the Soundtrack of Campus Life.
